Our 406 Series Bore Targets may be used to establish centerlines of large cylindrical units or bores such as extruder tubes, crankshaft bores, turbine/ generator bores, etc. The compact and flexible design accommodates a wide range of bore diameters.

Two models are available in this series: the model 406-6 accommodates a maximum bore diameter of 60" (1.52m), while the 406-6A can handle a bore up to 150" (3.8m) in diameter.

The unit is made for quick and easy field setup. Stability is assured with solid leg connections (rather than telescoping legs) and the use of "sleds" as feet - no more targets slipping or falling out of bores during your alignment. This feature makes the 406 Series ideal for half-bore and vertical applications. Leg design helps to minimize sag.

Line bore applicationIn use, the target is first positioned roughly in the bore center with adjustable feet, then the central target holder is "indicated in". This is achieved using the dial indicator, which is mounted on a sweep arm connected to a rotating central hub. The hub, in turn, contains the optical target. The central hub is adjustable so that it - and therefore the target - may be brought to dead center. This process also reveals and quantifies any out-of-round conditions in the bore.

Specifications

The 6110 paired-line glass target is mounted in a hardened and ground stabilized steel ring. It is centered within 0.0005" with respect to the outside diameter of the ring. It may be used in many alignment configurations, but is sized to fit our standard spherical adapters, such as the 521-B. The target conforms to A.I.A. specifications.

Specifications

The 6120 paired-line glass target is an unmounted version of our 6110 target. The target pattern is centered within 0.0005" with respect to the outside diameter of the glass. It may be used in many alignment configurations, but is sized to fit our standard spherical adapters, such as our 521-B and the 5100 (discontinued). The target conforms to A.I.A. specifications.

Specifications

The 6125 unmounted multiple paired-line glass target may be used for many alignment applications (ex., bore alignments). The target pattern is centered within 0.0005" with respect to the outside diameter of the glass.

The 6250 mirrored target is used to check the perpendicularity of a part by autoreflection or autocollimation using the first-surface mirror, as well as to position a part on the line of sight using the target image. The target is unmounted and can be fitted directly into the part to be positioned, or into any standard sphere such as our 521-B.

This product is a replacement for our previous mirrored target which was listed as National Stock Number NSN-6650-01-197-0587

True rotational centerlines may be referenced quickly and accurately with the model 284‑M spindle mirror. It is designed to attach magnetically to the end of a shaft or spindle. The mirror has both a 100% reflecting surface and a multiple filar bi‑filar target printed on the surface. Translation adjustments (four laterally opposing screws) are provided to set the target concentric to the center of rotation, while angular adjustments (three spring-loaded screws at 120°) set the mirror precisely perpendicular to the shaft's rotational centerline. By setting an optical instrument to the mirror, precise extension of the shaft rotational axis is ensured.

The 284-M mirror provides a reference LOS (line of sight) on rotational axes such as drive lines, gearbox output shafts, ship's propeller shafts, generator centerlines, etc. Once an instrument is aligned with the rotational axes, various tasks may be performed to relate or evaluate the position of other items (such as machine ways, bearing journals, bores, etc.) to the original rotational axis.

Specifications

The 6150 multiple paired-line glass target, with horizontal and vertical displacement scales, is mounted in a hardened and ground stabilized steel ring. It is centered within 0.0005" with respect to the outside diameter of the ring. This target is useful when you need to measure or estimate deviations from a line of sight which exceed an optical micrometer's range. The graduations on the target act as "scale" and may be read using the optical micrometer as a vernier in much the same way that optical tooling scales are read.

The 395 see-through target is great for alignment jobs where it is necessary to focus on various collinear targets that are positioned down a single line of sight. Wire targets such as this one prevent any refraction error because glass is not employed to create the target pattern. Instead, pairs of flat stainless steel wires* are fixed in a cross pattern, and mounted in a 2¼" diameter, heat treated steel ring. Various wire spacings are available (see table in the data sheet). This target meets A.I.A. specifications.

The 740-A Floor Target Holder provides a permanent mount for optical targets, and may be grouted into a floor or other surface. Great for offset centerlines or holding other reference lines that must be used for alignment again and again. The ¼" target mount is fully adjustable in the X-Y plane using three socket head set screws which surround the target (design sketch below). A threaded cap with large screwdriver slot protects the target mount from harm while not being used. Milled slots on the side of the holder body give extra grip and help prevent rotation once grouted in place. Three threaded holes on the top surface of the holder body (just under the cap) allow the use of our mounting/leveling fixture for perfect placement while grouting.

They may be backlit for additional visibility in low-light applications. Backlighting this target when used as the far target in a line of bore targets gives a great diffuse backlight for the other targets in the line. The 705 is 2¼" (57.2mm) diameter and may be used in our spherical targeting systems. The 709 is 1½" (38.1mm) in diameter. Note: The 705-1 obviously cannot be backlit.

They are extemely similar to our 707 series, except that the 708 has a diameter of 1½" (38.1mm). These targets have holes drilled through on the target's diameter for mounting and to facilitate target removal from tight spots.

The 708 is available in a variety of target pattern spacings as presented in the chart below. The line spacing is engraved at the top of the target (in inch units).

The 6130 has a paired line target pattern similar to our model 6110, but is engraved on a 2¼" (57.2mm) plexiglas disk. The letters L, T, R, & B are repeated twice for different fields of view to help indicate target orientation (Left, Top, Right, & Bottom). The disk has mounting holes on a diameter.

The 18-0001 provides a red bull's eye target on a face which is ground to 45° with respect to the axis of the target's shank. This allows easy sighting from a wide viewing angle. This plug target fits into holders which may be used with our Invar system (see data sheet) or in any 1/4" holder which provides a slip fit for a 0.2498" shank. When used with an Invar tubing assembly, the target pattern is located on the central axis of the tubing stackup.

The 706-1W plug target has a dual width, bi-filar line pattern which is machine engraved and black‑filled on white plastic. This target is often used as a reference target for a variety of machinery alignments. The white target body provides a good contrast with the black target lines under typical lighting conditions.

The target pattern is centered on the plug within ±0.001" (0.025mm). Target spacings of 0.010" and 0.020" allow shot distances up to 25 feet (7.6m). Shank diameter is 0.250".

The 710 has a dual width, bi‑filar target pattern machine engraved and black-filled on clear acrylic. The translucent target body works well when backlighting is required.

The pattern is centered on the axis of the socket within ±0.001" (0.025mm). Target spacings of 0.010" and 0.020" allow shot distances up to 25 feet (7.6m).

The 717 Series paired line target has a pattern which is machine engraved and black-filled on white acetyl plastic. The target is centered within ±0.0005" (0.013mm) of the centerline of the plug. This target is very useful when sighting an optical instrument directly on the center point of a tooling reference hole.

Standard plug diameter is 0.250" although as with many of our targets, special variations are available on request.

The 717-B is very useful when sighting an optical instrument directly on the center point of a 0.250" tooling reference hole. The target pattern is centered within ±0.0005" (0.013 mm) of the centerline of the plug. The target's plug diameter is 0.250" (6.35 mm). Plug diameters of 0.375" (9.52 mm) and 0.500" (12.7 mm) are available by special order.
